SCIENCE is Changing Our World |
 |
|
|
This is the age of science. Science has made man's
life and living more comfortable. It has solved the
problems of time and distance. It has made the world
happier. It has made life easier and worth living.
In olden days our fore fathers had no benefit of
scientific inventions. They used to go from one
place to another on foot or in bullock carts. They
used to light earthen lamps in their houses. Radio,
telephone and television were unknown to them. There
were no airplanes in those days and the idea of the
conquest of the moon was considered a cock and bull
story.
Science has revolutionized human life and has done
great service to humanity. In the field of
transport, now we have cars, buses, tramways,
railways, airplanes and ships. In a car we can
travel with great comfort. Buses are an important
means of public transport these days. Railways are
the cheapest and safest means of transport. They
pass through deserts and forests and carry
passengers and goods to far off destinations.
Airplanes are the fastest means of transport. There
are supersonic airplanes, which fly faster than
sound. Now you can have your breakfast in Delhi and
your lunch in London. There are large ships which
carry passengers and goods across the seas and
oceans. Time and distances are no problem. The world
has grown smaller. The credit for all these
achievements goes to science.
Science has influenced our means of communications
as well in a big way. In the olden days messages
took months to reach distant places. Messengers and
horse-riders carried messages. But now we have
telephones, wireless, radios and televisions. On a
telephone you can talk to your friends, relatives
and business partners at a distant place in half a
minute. With the help of wireless apparatus,
messages may be conveyed to far off places in no
time. Radios give us news from all the corners of
the world. They are a source of enjoyment and
recreation as well. On the television screen you can
see happenings of far off lands. These marvels of
science have changed our way of life.
Our life has become more comfortable. In the summer
electric fans provide us cool breezes. Coolers and
air conditioners cool our home, offices and public
halls and make our life more comfortable.
Refrigerators prepare ice-cream for us. In winter we
use room-heaters to warm our rooms. We use electric
iron to press our clothes. With the help of
water-heater we get hot water for our wash and bath.
In our kitchen we use electric stoves, hot plates
and electric kettles. These apparatuses make cooking
easier. Call-bells in our houses are operated by
electricity. Electric bulbs light our houses and
streets. A large number of factories are run by
electric power.
Science has conquered diseases. Wonderful medicines
have been invented to prevent and cure diseases.
There are drugs to cure many dreadful diseases.
Medicines for treating tuberculosis successfully
have been invented. Tuberculosis is no longer an
incurable disease. The discovery of X-ray and radium
has made new advances in the field of medicine. Now
defects, deformations, tumours and injuries inside
the body of a man can be found out with the help of
X-rays and radium. Another grand success in this
direction is plastic surgery. Now it has become
possible to transplant various parts of the human
body such as kidneys and hearts, etc.Vaccination has
made small-pox a thing of the past. Injections and
inoculations work as a guarantee against an attack
of cholera, plague or typhoid. In olden days
epidemics used to take a heavy toll of life, but now
scientific methods and medicines have brought them
under control.
Atomic power is being used to run huge factories.
Atomic power stations are becoming very popular.
Scientists in the atomic field have made valuable
contributions to medical science. Their researches
have resulted in easy detection and Cure of certain
diseases.
Science has made our defense more effective. Many
new weapons have been invented for the use of our
defense forces. They have increased our defense
preparedness.
Man's life has become easier, happier and more
comforted ( because of scientific machines which
save labour and do work in less time). It is with the
help of science that man reached the moon. Several
successful flights have been to this only satellite
of our world. Scientific appliances are doing almost
everything for man so that he can spare and utilize
his energies and time under nobler achievements.
Science has made the free from superstitions and has
made man to think more and more. It has taken the
world community out of the shell nationalism and
development of nuclear weapons by the use of atomic
bombs (used for the First World War against Japan).
Though man has conquered the moon, he is not yet
satisfied-His efforts to conquer other planets are
afoot. There has been rapid progress and development
in the field of space research and technology. Many
valuable scientific facts about Venus have been
success fully obtained by landing certain scientific
apparatus on the planet. The American spaceships
Mariners have ventured to make certain discoveries
and have taken certain photographs of Mars.
Scientists are busy finding out whether there is any
life or vegetation on Mars. Looking to these
researches and advances in the field of space
travel, it is hoped that man may land on Venus and
Mars as well.
