SCIENCE is Changing Our World |

“It is the destiny of man to move forward,
His whole being is a desire to know,
Doing the things he cannot do, and only the
answers
Accomplishing the tasks that could not be
done, to the ultimate questions,
Reaching farther than anyone would imagine.
Will ever satisfy him.
Birthed under a star, only touching unknown
shores,
He cannot rest until he is among them, will
his soul be fulfilled.
Reaching them, touching them, Time will pass
and bend to his will.
Feeling the power of the Universe. No power
known can stop him,
Louise: "How did you get here?"
Johnny: "Well, basically, there was this little dot,
right? And the dot went bang and the bang expanded.
Energy formed into matter, matter cooled, matter
lived, the amoeba to fish, to fish to fowl, to fowl
to frog, to frog to mammal, the mammal to monkey, to
monkey to man"
~From the movie Naked.
Funny isn't it? But that's the truth
that's how man has developed with the help of
Science. According to Oliver Wendell Holmes,
“Science is a first-rate piece of furniture for a
man's upper chamber, if he has common sense on the
ground floor”.
This is the age of science. Science has made man's
life and living more comfortable. It has solved the
problems of time and distance. It has made the world
happier. It has made life easier and worth living.
In olden days our forefathers had no benefit of
scientific inventions. They used to go from one
place to another on foot or in bullock carts. They
used to light earthen lamps in their houses. Radio,
telephone and television were unknown to them. There
were no airplanes in those days and the idea of the
conquest of the moon was considered a cock and bull
story.
Science has revolutionised human life and has done
great service to humanity. In the field of
transport, now we have cars, buses, tramways,
railways, aeroplanes and ships. In a car we can
travel with great comfort. Buses are an important
means of public transport these days. Railways are
the cheapest and safest means of transport. They
pass through deserts and forests and carry
passengers and goods to far off destinations.
Aeroplanes are the fastest means of transport. There
are supersonic aeroplanes, which fly faster than
sound. Now you can have your breakfast in Delhi and
your lunch in London. There are large ships which
carry passengers and goods across the seas and
oceans. Time and distances are no problem. The world
has grown smaller. The credit for all these
achievements goes to science.
Science has influenced our means of communications
as well in a big way. In the olden days messages
took months to reach distant places. Messengers and
horse-riders carried messages. But now we have
telephones, wireless, radios and televisions. On a
telephone you can talk to your friends, relatives
and business partners at a distant place in half a
minute. With the help of wireless apparatus,
messages may be conveyed to far off places in no
time. Radios give us news from all the corners of
the world. They are a source of enjoyment and
recreation as well. On the television screen you can
see happenings of far off lands. These marvels of
science have changed our way of life.
It's a lovely day when you
'search' the humorous way.
Searching for information
Is as simple as A - B - C.
Sorry to boast but I'm the host,
A hobby in land of the free.
The answer to a small problem
Is found by me quite easily.
All on the net ~ not one regret
Scene is set on my friendly PC.
One plus one - the answer is two.
Two plus one - the answer is three.
No need for a high I.Q.
Just trust in modern technology!
The Internet makes the world smaller. The ability to
communicate and exchange information instantaneously
and across vast distances has enabled more
individuals and businesses to participate in the
economy, regardless of their location. Large
companies can connect with employees, suppliers, and
partners around the globe, and small businesses can
find their customers anywhere in the world.
Businesses can hire knowledge workers almost
regardless of where they are, greatly expanding
employment opportunities for people in the United
States, and giving developing nations the ability to
become economic powerhouses by providing information
technology services to the rest of the world. The
Internet, along with other computer technologies, is
literally enabling some developing countries to
"leapfrog" the industrial revolution and jump
straight to the Internet Age.
Our life has become more comfortable. In the summer
electric fans provide us cool breezes. Coolers and
air conditioners cool our home, offices and public
halls and make our life more comfortable.
Refrigerators prepare ice-cream for us. In winter we
use room-heaters to warm our rooms. We use electric
iron to press our clothes. With the help of
water-heater we get hot water for our wash and bath.
In our kitchen we use electric stoves, hot plates
and electric kettles. These apparatuses make cooking
easier. Call-bells in our houses are operated by
electricity. Electric bulbs light our houses and
streets. A large number of factories are run by
electric power.
Science has conquered diseases. Wonderful medicines
have been invented to prevent and cure diseases.
There are sulpha drugs to cure many dreadful
diseases. Medicines for treating tuberculosis
successfully have been invented. Tuberculosis is no
longer an incurable disease. The discovery of X-ray
and radium has made new advances in the field of
medicine. Now defects, deformations, tumours and
injuries inside the body of a man can be found out
with the help of X-rays and radium. Another grand
success in this direction is plastic surgery. Now it
has become possible to transplant various parts of
the human body such as kidneys and hearts, etc.
Vaccination has made small-pox a thing of the past.
Injections and inoculations work as a guarantee
against an attack of cholera, plague or typhoid. In
olden days epidemics used to take a heavy toll of
life, but now scientific methods and medicines have
brought them under control.
Atomic power is being used to run huge factories.
Atomic power stations are becoming very popular.
Scientists in the atomic field have made valuable
contributions to medical science. Their researches
have resulted in easy detection and Cure of certain
diseases.
Science has made our defence more effective. Many
new weapons have been invented for the use of our
defence forces. They have increased our defence
preparedness.
Man's life has become easier, happier and more
comfortable (because of scientific machines which
save labour and they do things in less time. It is
with the help of science that man reached the moon.
Several successful flights have been to this only
satellite of our world.
Science has made the free from superstitions and has
made man more analytical and reasoning. As it is
said by ~Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, 1776
“Science is the great antidote to the poison of
enthusiasm and superstition”. It has taken the world
community out of the shell nationalism and has
opened up new vistas of truth
It is rightly said by ~Bertrand Russell “Even if the
open windows of science at first make us shiver
after the cosy indoor warmth of traditional
humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings
vigor, and the great spaces have splendour of their
own”.

are only two constants:
the time we come and the time we go.
Everything in between is in our own hands.
WE ARE THE
