Introduction and Scheme of Examination
The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE (MAIN) is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination.

It has been decided to hold a Joint Entrance Examination from the year 2013 for admission to the undergraduate programmes in Engineering in two parts, JEE-MAIN and JEE-ADVANCED. Only the top 150000 candidates (including all categories) based on performance in JEE MAIN will qualify to appear in the JEE ADVANCED examination.

Admissions to IITs will be based only on category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE ADVANCED, subject to condition that such candidates are in the top 20 percentile of their respective categories. Admission to NITs will be based on 40% weightage for performance in Class XII board marks (normalized) and the remainder 60% weightage would be given to performance in JEE Main and a combined All India Rank (AIR) would be decided accordingly. The policy could also be adopted by other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) and participating Institutions. In case any state opts to admit students in the engineering colleges affiliated to state Universities through JEE (Main) where States require separate merit list to be provided based on relative weightages adopted by the states, then the merit list shall be prepared with such relative weightages as may be indicated by States. The examination will be conducted in the Regional Languages of the State(s) on the requests of such State(s).

Pattern of Examination
Combination for each paper and type of questions in each paper are given in the table below:
Paper – I

Our years of coaching students for some of the toughest Boards & competitive entrances has enabled us to create a structure that we advise our students to follow. If you are aiming for top ranks at IIT JEE Advanced, you have to prepare for it just as players and sportsmen prepare for the national level tournaments. Here are the guidelines we provide to our Sinhal’s students as they join our institute on their journey to success.

1) Choose your IIT Faculty with care
The calibre of the faculty can make or break a student’s IIT dream. When selecting the IIT coaching institute, parents must make sure to check the credentials of the faculty: in terms of qualifications, prior teaching experience and having coached rankers. Ensure the institute itself is right for the child: in terms of social ambience, the kind of teachers and the overall attitude of the teachers and staff.

2) Compile relevant study materials at the start of Std. XI
Get the right textbooks, guide books and previous years’ question papers, IIT-JEE study packages, DVDs and CDs for information on lectures and workshops. And do it at the beginning of Std. XI. You should be familiar with the entire syllabus to be covered in the exam; and collect study material accordingly. Ask teachers and mentors on what you should be studying: there’s too much material in the market, not all is relevant.

3) Pay attention in class
You need to learn the science concepts and fundamentals tested at the IIT entrance from a teacher who understands the topic thoroughly, for they cannot be learned by merely reading books. Half the work is already done if you pay attention in class at all times to understand & retain what is being taught. Ask questions. Clarify doubts or queries immediately. Do not wait till the exams approach. That would stress you out even further.

4) Manage Time Effectively
Parents prefer to send their children to coaching centers because of the fear that they would not study otherwise. However, an IIT JEE aspirant cannot afford to do this. Self-study is the key to success in this exam. Draft a study timetable and stick to it. Divide your time judiciously between all the subjects.

5) Chunk it Down
Remember the saying “Divide And Rule”. Pick your topic of study for the hour and then break it down in to small sections. Chart out clear heads that form the structure of the topic and focus on completing one head at a time.

6) Work on the weak areas
Pay attention to your test results and keep a record of problems or concepts you are making mistakes in. Do more sums on these topics. If the errors continue, speak to your teacher. Do it now! Do not leave anything for later. At this level, concepts are built on top of what you have already learnt. Any gap in your knowledge will impact your performance at the higher levels. Make notes for the topics in which you are weak. This will help you to perform well in exam.

7) Practice, Practice and Practice some more!
t is difficult for anyone to be really 100% prepared for IIT JEE Advanced. Attempt as many test series questions as possible, ask your seniors for tips, hints, old question papers, discover more and more new tricks … anything that will expose your mind to new questions and new levels of challenge.

8) Make a study group that will challenge you
Working with a competitive study group helps if you are not the talkative type. Group discussion with teachers and fellow students will recreate a right environment to multiply your knowledge exponentially. Students can Quiz and challenge each other with questions from the syllabus. If you tend to get chatty and casual easily with your friends, study alone.

9) Revise thoroughly
Revise the syllabus as many times as you can. Doing so will help you in the following ways:
• It will increase your test-taking speed.
• It will help you overcome panic.
• It will give you a clear picture about the topics you’re weak in.

Follow each of these tips sincerely and you are sure to crack IIT JEE Advanced within the rank you have set out for yourself. Acquiring the IIT mindset is all about scaling the greatest hurdle: your mind and your ideas. If you can train your mind to do what you want it to, success at IIT-JEE can be yours!

Cracking IIT is viewed by most teachers, parents and students as an insurmountable challenge. Yes, it’s tough, it’s definitely challenging, but most importantly, it’s life changing. At Sinhal’s, we understand what the IIT dream means. And we have the teachers, the infrastructure, the study methods and material that will get you there!
There are three things you absolutely need to crack this mother of all entrances: the right teacher, the right teacher, the right teacher. We couldn’t emphasis this more.

There are a lot of different things associated with cracking IIT: confidence, clarity, speed, numerical accuracy. But above it all, it is the need for a teacher who can speak the language of IIT; and most importantly, teach it to you.

Why do teachers play a key role in a student’s success at IIT entrances?
Because they bring to their students and classrooms an understanding of the subject that cannot be communicated merely through books. The difference between a not-very-experienced IIT teacher and a teacher who has been through the IIT grind himself is equal to the difference in watching a 2-D movie v/s a 3-D one.

The experiences are incomparable.

With a Top Batch experienced IIT Faculty conducting a class, the learning process is immersive and exciting. A true Top Batch experienced IIT teacher inspires his students, taking them to the far corners of scientific knowledge that they never believed existed. He will change the way they see the world. He will change their understanding of the subject and how they approach their learning! And this is the difference that reflects in the scores they achieve at the entrances, as compared to the students taught by very good, but non-IIT teachers.

How does this kind of teaching help in the highly competitive environment of IIT entrances?
From the outside, IIT-JEE Advanced is completely focused on numbers, logic, analysis, and high scores. There appears to be almost no scope for creative thinking, or need for deep understanding of concepts. Many average teachers advocate many hours of practice as the only route to success. But this approach is erroneous.

The reason: the JEE-Advanced paper format takes different concepts and combines them. Questions asked are a combination of 2 or more principles – all of which the student must comprehend fully.

One of the key skills tested at JEE Advanced entrance is speed and numerical accuracy. To meet these parameters, a student must be able to quickly assess the principles at work in the question and break it down to the critical data to be analysed.

This is where the quality and depth of learning will make a difference. Once a brilliant teacher has walked a student through a concept and he (the student) has thoroughly understood it, the student will be able to successfully identify the underlying principles and solve the problems given at each level.

Given the fact that the various principles and theorems of physics and mathematics can be combined in numerous ways, it is impossible to practice and learn every possible sum by heart. This is where application and logical analysis comes in. That is what a great teacher teaches: he teaches the student how to identify the problem quickly and eliminate the other probable choices that could apply to a given question. This skill is critical to move through the JEE Advanced papers quickly and correctly.

Sinhal’s has always been a coaching institute that has stood head and shoulders above the others in the market. With our latest offering of IIT-JEE Advanced division, we are on the threshold of writing a whole new story of success!

If you dream of having your name on the cherished IIT-JEE Advanced Merit List, at a rank that will get you into the IIT of your choice; or you are parent who has been nurturing the IIT dream for your child for years, then Sinhal IIT is the place to be.
